Bank of England (BoE) maintained status quo in its policy decision yesterday and kept policy rate unchanged at 0.5%. (Asset Purchase Facility at GBP 375 bn).
European Central Bank (ECB) December policy minutes revealed divergence in the members' views, with some participants favouring "further accommodation". Federal Reserve official James Bullard cited concerns over inflation, stating that "with renewed declines in crude oil prices in recent weeks, the associated decline in market-based inflation expectations measures is becoming worrisome".
Global market developments:
China's aggregate financing picked up to CNY 1.8 tn in December from CNY 1.1 tn previously. This is the second consecutive month of rise in the metric.
US equities ended in the green yesterday amid a rebound in energy and healthcare shares. Dow Jones and S&P gained 1.4% and 1.7% respectively.
Asian equities are trading mixed this morning. In line with US equities, Nikkei, Kospi and Australia's ASX are up 0.5%, 0.2% and 0.1% respectively. However, Shanghai Composite and Hang Seng are down 0.7% and 0.2% respectively.
US Treasuries are trading little changed this morning, albeit holding on to recent gains. The 10Y benchmark yield is currently at 2.09% levels, same as yesterday's close.
Domestic market developments:
India's WPI came in at (-)0.73% YoY in December vs. prior print of (-)1.99% YoY. The wholesale inflation print continued to persist in the deflation territory for the 14th consecutive month.
Indian Rupee is trading weaker against the US Dollar at 67.35 levels vs. yesterday's close of 67.29. The domestic currency had breached the 67 mark in early trade yesterday.
Indian equities are trading in the green today, in line with US equities.
